Understand your options

Your music. Your choices.

Plain Music is designed to help you learn at your own pace. Here's what happens to your information in this public preview, and which optional features you control.

What is saved on this browser?

Learning steps, locally chosen goals, short trainer exercise records, preferences, and musical ideas can be stored in this browser. Some records identify whether an exercise used on-screen keys or MIDI note events and whether help was requested. These are practice records, not proof of musical proficiency.

If browser storage is cleared, local progress may be lost. A backup is available in My learning.

What happens when I use the microphone?

In the optional device test, microphone permission is requested only after you start the check. The audio signal is examined locally to display a sound level or an estimated pitch. The test does not make an audio recording file or upload raw audio. The microphone stops when you stop the test or leave or hide the page; your browser may continue to remember that you granted permission.

You can use the on-screen keyboard without granting microphone access.

What does MIDI tell the instructor?

If you connect a MIDI input, the browser can receive note messages. The three-note instrument check does not save those messages. The guided trainer may save a short local record of which exercise you completed, the input type, and any requested assistance. MIDI cannot tell whether your shoulders or wrists are relaxed, or whether a hardware instrument rather than software generated the events.

Can I move or clear my progress?

Yes. Download a learning-history backup from My learning. The file may include your optional display name, practice records and musical ideas. Store it privately. Before restoring, the app shows what the file will replace and asks you to confirm.

To remove browser-local data, use your browser's controls for clearing this site's stored data. This can erase your saved progress and melodies; export first if you want to keep them.

Are accounts, invitations or live AI active?

No. Live AI instruction, connected learner accounts, and public invitations are disabled in this public preview. Some instructor answers use predefined educational explanations rather than a live generative model.

This privacy notice describes the current public preview. Plain Music does not currently provide connected learner accounts or a public enrollment program. Age, guardian-consent, privacy, and operational requirements will be reviewed before any program involving minors or connected accounts is activated.

Learning should feel understandable.

You should know what you're practicing, what the app can actually observe, and when you're making a choice.
